The Best of Paganini Customer Review: Paganini, yes, but
On the good side is the selection of pieces. I was not happy with the quality of the audio. It has a thin and weakness about it that makes me wish they’d tried harder when they produced this CD to ensure the richness of this music came through. A couple of the most familiar pieces have performances I was completely unfamiliar with, so I would recommend the CD overall for Paganini and for the excellent performances, but the product as sold deserves better engineering.
Customer Review: Reading about Paganini
Fans of Paganini should read Julian Livingston’s novel, Paganini-The Vampire Career. In this book, P.T. Barnum has sent Henry Feder to Europe to seek out a new violinist, Nicolaties, more than 40 years after Paganini died without last rites. Nicolaties looks, performs, behaves like Paganini. Could it be him? Lots of technical references to music, as Mr. Livingston is a musician and has written 2 operas. A very interesting book for musicians, vampire lovers, and macabre 19th century European tales.

A Few Thoughts on Composer-PerformersI went to two excellent concerts recently which served as great illustrations of what happens when a composer really understands what the instruments he or she is writing for are capable of. The first was a concert by cello/percussion duo Odd Appetite at Symphony Space in New York on March 12. Percu…Read the full post from New Music reBlogTags: via Blogdigger blog search for guitar.

Alejandro Escovedo at Lafayette’s Duncan Hall
Alejandro Escovedo at Lafayette’s Duncan HallAlejandro Escovedo brought only guitarist David Pulkingham to Lafayette’s Duncan Hall on Sunday night, but I think he rocked almost as hard as he did 18 months ago when he brought his full band. After the second song, for example, Escovedo joked that the show was over after he and Pulkingham battled…Read the full post from Cahl’s Juke Joint: A rock, blues and jazz blogTags: Concerts, Rock, Alejandro Escovedo via Blogdigger blog search for guitar.

Thom Yorke will be hopping mad
Thom Yorke will be hopping madEMI have confirmed they are releasing a Radiohead Best Of in June. It has all those songs you love, plus the ones you respect but never really listen to from Kid A. To promote the album, the label has done a thing called an “EPK”, which is what Dan Ackroyd used to find Slimer in Ghostbusters. Soft Rockin’: Battle of the Bands [Thq Gamer's Day 08]
Soft Rockin’: Battle of the Bands [Thq Gamer's Day 08]It was with great trepidation that I checked out Battle of the bands for Wii. The logo alone left me feeling like it was going to be a cheap Guitar Hero knock off with it’s heavy Metal pointy-ness. What I was shown when I actually played was a somewhat convoluted rock band/battle game that seemed to…Read the full post from KotakuTags: battle of the bands, thq, Wii, thq gamer’s day 08 via Blogdigger blog search for guitar.
