I purchased this for my teenage Nephew for Christmas. His Mother has many friends that are band members and they were impressed with the quality and price of this drum set. He plays this on a regular basis (plays long and hard) so if any problems occur in the near future, I will be sure to pass that info on here. But right now, I have to say that he is thrilled with it and so are all the pro’s that helped him put the set it up and tune it.
Drumroll please! … The Starcaster Drum Kit is the real thing (not a toy!), with everything the up-and-coming drummer in your house needs to get started! With sturdy hardwood shells and tough, durable heads, this professional-size kit includes a snare drum, floor tom, pair of rack toms, kick drum, high-hat cymbal and crash cymbal, plus all the stands, hardware and pedals you need - and even a drum throne, tuning key and pair of sticks. Everything you need to lay down the groove!
Great beginner drum set - Dean Bandilla -
I bought the Fender Starcaster drum set for my daughter who is just learning to play. Cost was the biggest factor and this set was relatively inexpensive compared to higher end or even some used sets. The set sounds decent but that’s coming from a non-musician. However, a drummer friend made some adjustments and tuned the set so it sounds even better.
Overall, for my daughter’s first set of drums, I got more than what I bargained for.

This pad is terrific for beginners or for getting a quick practice in. User configurable in more ways than I’ll ever use. I like having the MIDI-in/out for laying down tracks to a computer. While it can’t compete with a true, full-blown set, it’s definitely a step up from the kiddie sets out there.
* PLEASE NOTE: The 2008 TT-1 model was recalled for a mismatched power supply. This quality issue has been corrected in the 2009 TT-1 model. * Drumroll please! … The TT-1 is the perfect way to groove on the fly! Lightweight and super portable, you can take the jam anywhere you want to go. And with built-in speakers, 7 drum pads and 2 pedals (one for bass drum and one for high-hat), this full-featured kit will really help you lay down the groove! Choose from 100 auto accompaniment rhythm patterns, 20 drum sets, 76 different sounds, and 3 digital reverbs! Play in Learning mode along with the metronome, or record and playback your performances! Kick in the “Super Bass” effect so you can “feel” the rhythm, or slap on some headphones for late night jamming that won’t get you evicted!
Would recommend - B. Bearden - Kentucky, USA
The product is great! Love how you can record & play back your own stuff.
Not for real drummers… and defective too. - M. J. Whelan - Avalon, CA United States
If you are someone who learned to play drums acoustically (on a regular/real drum-set), then this Fender set will annoy the p*ss out of you. Its response and sensitivity is so bad that you will become quickly bothered and will want to toss this machine out the window (second story!).
Also, the machine that I received had a defective power supply, so whenever I hit the bass pedal, the machine completely shut off. Nice.
I wouldn’t waste your dollars. Look for another brand (maybe Yamaha?), or try a Midi trigger type device that you can hook up to your computer.
Disappointing - J. Scott Rutan - Boston, MA
This now discontinued product from Fender is disappointing. It is not an expensive drum kit, but I would have expected more realistic drum sounds and a more authentic drum feel. In addition the product shipped with only one of the two advertised drum peddles. (Fender was very helpful and found a peddle even though the product is no longer being manufactured.)
I would suggest that if you are interested in a drum kit, spend a little more and get a better product.
