DW provides drummers with yet another sonic option, while at the same time utilizing renewable resources, that’s ECO-X. They are big, full sounding drums with a huge fundamental, and all of the warmth, resonance, and attack that Collector’s Series drums are known for. This Eco-X floor tom not only satisfies drummer’s needs with its huge sound, and full frequency range, but it also satisfies our need to be environmentally conscious. The unique hybrid bamboo/birch shell provides increased high-end attack, while DW’s X Shell technology offers unprecedented low-end response. Plus, DW drummer-friendly features such as True Pitch Tuning, STM (Suspension Tom Mounts), Proportional Counter Hoops and DW Heads by Remo USA all come standard. It’s a giant leap forward in shell technology and everyone wins!

I recently purchased the ECO-X set, not thru amazon.com but thru DW specifically. An when I put them together and added some Remo pinstripe heads on them I was blown away from the sound. I own 2 DW set’s already but wanted to give the ECO-X a try and I’m so empressed. Im a huge maple fan but never owned a birch set especially with bamboo. The sound was warm and fat, and the look is great also. So drummers out there give them a try you wont be dissapointed.
P.S. The desert sand finish is great!!!

It’s a giant leap forward in shell technology and everyone wins! At DW, making drum shells sound better is what they do best. The X Shell technology all started with DW’s foray into VLT, or Vertical Low Timbre Technology. They found that in experimenting with alternate ways to cross-laminate a shell, the tension on the shell could be greatly decreased if the majority of plies were run vertically, rather than horizontally. Just like a guitar string, the tighter it gets, the higher in pitch it goes. Drum shells must be cross-laminated for strength, so the idea of designing a completely vertical shell to achieve optimal low frequencies was never an option, until now—enter X Shells. The concept was derived from DW’s popular line of VGE (Vertical Grain Exotics). DW had been laminating veneer in a diagonal orientation for a while, but had never considered the sonic benefits until Master Drum Designer John Good proposed it, “If we can mimic the effect of a complete VLT shell, we’ll have created the lowest sounding drum ever.” The first prototype was made and the result was a home run. Exactly what Mr. Good had anticipated, big, full sounding drums with a huge fundamental, and all of the warmth, resonance and attack that DW Collector’s Series drums are known for. Cymbals and hardware not included.

I just recently purchased this awesome kit from Amazon and may I say it was the best drums I have ever heard. Coming from an electronic, Roland V-Drums for many year, I shined away from acoustic drums mainly of the difficulty in making these acoustic things sound decent. I was blown away with my first DW experience. This is by far the best sounding drums I have ever heard, even out of tune. I got these last week and fell in love. No wonder virtually all well-known artists are switching to DW.
The Sound:
Love the kick drum sound. It is dry, fat, you can feel it in your chest, stomach and every where. The toms are just rounded, warm with superb sound. I tried them all from high ends Yamaha, Pearl, Tampa etc… the sounds from those drums are literally like you are hitting the trash can. Again coming from an electronic drums, I am very critical of the sounds and let me tell you that DW is just God of drums. I can’t imagine how these drums would sound when properly EQ and mic. I am a true believer in DW and have switched to DW for life.
Comparison:
To compare DW with others, I would say it is like driving a ferrari vs. a Ford Pinto. Another way to think about these drums is like playing with Apple MacBook Pro (unibody late 2009 model) vs. a high end Windows PC
If you are thinking about getting these drums, run and buy them. I promise you will love love DW. Got to love Amazon to offer such a fantastic product.
